PRAISE FROM SLAVIC AND EAST EUROPEAN JOURNAL
"This is no doubt an edition that
every major library will want to own"
Extract from the review in the American
SLAVIC AND EAST EUROPEAN JOURNAL
"The sheer task of gathering and
collating the translations must have been enormous;
it is not difficult to see why this project required
over a decade to complete. The result is not only the
most complete edition of Pushkin in English, but a set
of volumes that has benefited from the involvement of
numerous scholars and translators in its preparation.
Readers who do not know Russian now have ready access
to everything that Pushkin wrote, and they will find
a generally strong group of translators: whatever quibbles
one may have about the versions of individual lyrics,
most of which are in fact well translated, the longer
works are generally represented by either the best or
one of the best translations done to date. This is no
doubt an edition that every major library will want
to own."
